  1. nice!
    I have a question;
    I’ve never used shampoo in my 5 yr old daughter’s hair but am getting some pressure from dh to start as her hair has a rather stinky odour about it. I always just rinse it in water. Is there something natural i can use to get rid of the smell? or do we just have to live with it?
    Many thanks!

  2. Hi Becca,

    Hair without shampoo should not ‘stink’. Shampoos have perfumes in them so if you compare one head that has been shampooed with one that hasn’t, one will smell natural or neutral, and the other will smell like whatever perfume was included in the preparation. You ought to determine what the smell is coming from and then figure out what to do about it. It may be that you need some kind of preparation, such as baking soda followed by lemon juice, or even an agreeable shampoo. I had to use shampoo once in my daughter’s hair after an olive oil treatment for cradle cap. Otherwise she has been shampoo free and I have never noticed a smell. Let me know how it goes!

  3. I don’t know if you’re still checking the comments from this blog, though if you are, I was wondering whether hot oil treatments would be acceptable whilst quitting shampoo.

  4. Hot oil sounds interesting. Generally, adding oil to the hair will not affect your noShampoo status! Actually, using oil can even help ‘clean’ the hair. Don’t believe me? Ask print artists how they clean up after oil based ink: they use vegetable oil!
