Hi Sabrina,

Hairspray washes out with water, I believe, and any such products should be alright. Having said that...going no shampoo is really about being natural, which means accepting your hair for what it is. Perhaps you would consider a change of style?

So I was wondering if going to the noshampoo technique would also require giving up hair products sub as moose and hairspray. I have extremely curly bushy hair and I find the only way to control it is lots of conditioner and product. What would you advise?

Hey, thanks! As the dude would say, the scalp abides. That is to say, yes, you should have enough oil in your hair to take care of your ends. Of course, baking soda removes those, so you could try cutting down on that. Also, you ought to try to use something acidic after the alkaline baking soda. Apple cider vinegar and lemon juice are both apparently quite effective. The acidity smooths the hair and makes it less 'dry' feeling. Let me know how it goes!

Hi I had a question about using conditioner. For the past couple of months I've been using baking soda as shampoo and then conditioner on my ends. I'd really love to cut out the baking soda entirely (I mean that is the point of noShampoo), but the ends of my hair are constantly dry so I was wondering if anyone still uses conditioner? Or if after enough time and enough brushing my natural oils will kind of spread to my ends. I don't know though, I have decently long hair. I just bought an all-natural conditioner in the effort to keep it pretty green, but I feel like the whole point is to put nothing in my hair so.... yeah. Haha! Any advice for me? Btdub this website is groovy, thanks!

I've been using baking soda and white vinegar instead of shampoo for 2 years now. When I started, I was pleasantly surprised at how long I could go without washing with this method...my hair didn't accumulate that greasy buildup like it used to with shampoo. I can go for 3-4 days now without even worrying about a wash, whereas before I could barely get through 24 hours without looking like I could supply a frying pan! Near the beginning I did try to go without baking soda too, but that was a little too much for me.
I do have one question for you. My hair does seem like it could use a little more shine. Is there much of a difference between vinegar and lemon juice? And is there a difference in using the apple cider vinegar and the white vinegar? (I only used the white vinegar because I saw that someone else on another site had said they used it)

Hey Bogdan,

This reminds me of what I wrote in another post about people's perceptions. I wrote that the greatest hurdle in going no shampoo is changing the perception of what's normal. The first person that has to change is yourself. As you so correctly point out, you cannot force anyone to do anything, nor should you, but slowly, their concept of normal will change, especially as more and more people go noshampoo!

You're very welcome Anna! :)
I used, once, baking soda and lemon juice. I used lemon juice for the smell :) The after-effect is like you've washed with a "soft" shampoo. The hair is cleaner but it still has some of it's natural oils.
I will use this method only in extreme cases, emergency only :)
You will see the effects of this method in time. You just have to be patient.
All the best!

confused*
Bogdan thank you for your answers. I think I will definitely stick to this method. It has been 3 days since I'm using noshampoo and my hair already feels great, even if it's a little bit greasy.
I'm so happy I discovered this, haha. At first I was a bit sceptical, but now I see there was no reason for that.
I hope that in a few months I will get rid of my really greasy greasy hair. When I was using shampoo, I used to wash my hair every day. And now I see that was a HUGE mistake.
I'm going to try baking soda and apple cider vinegar aswell. Just to see the results.

Anna, congratulations for trying this method!
If you feel like washing every day I guess it's fine. If you use only water is not a problem because the oils will not be washed completely like it would be with shampoo.
My advice will be to try different periods of time. But at first you could feel the need to wash it more often.
If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask them here or on our Facebook page!

Okey thanks :D.
But do you think it's okay if the first weeks I wash my hair every other day? I just started this so I'm a little bit confuse.
