My experience with noShampoo

Hello everybody!

First, let me introduce myself πŸ™‚ I am Bogdan, an almost 22 years-old student from Romania. I’m studying Psychology and I am very interested about green and natural stuff, from food to living.

I found out about the noShampoo technique from Facebook, if I’m not mistaken. I think a friend of mine “liked” one article from the website and I was curious to read it. That was a very good move for me. After I read all the articles, I asked some questions to a post but the answer didn’t came up as fast as I wanted and I decided to try this “weird and crazy” method.

My first experience was in November 2011. At first I was a bit reluctant πŸ™‚ In my mind I imagined myself, after using noShampoo, as a homeless guy. I thought that my hair will be filthy and unattractive. Β I guess most of you think about this at first, it’s ok πŸ™‚ So, after several weeks I saw that my hair was… interesting. It was like it changed, somehow. It was thicker, let’s say, but not fromΒ grease, it was thick after I washed it.Β  My hair was like never before. It had volume, and I could manage it, I could comb it as I wanted. Simply, I was amazed! I have straight hair, and the length is medium.

After trying this method for several weeks I had my downs… I must admit it. When my hair was too greasy (for me) I made the HUGE mistake to wash it with shampoo… Trust me, it was a mistake. My hair was very soft and I couldn’t make it stay one way or another… I had a hard time dealing with it πŸ™‚ To be honest, I had my slips just 2 or 3 times and I don’t really regret them, because I saw very clearly the difference between using shampoo and noShampoo.

Now I have been using only noShampoo for several months and I think my hair is starting to adjust its oils. I say that because my girlfriend asked me everyday if I washed my hair with shampoo (she knows I don’t use it anymore) because my hair looks really nice and clean.

So, to wrap things up, I advise you to give it a try. I’m not saying “Do this for the rest of your life!!”, but just try for yourself and see if this is bull**** or if it really works. That’s how I did it, and I experienced on my own the benefits. You might feel a bit awkward at first, but you won’t look dirty and your hair won’t smell bad! πŸ™‚

Have a nice day and give it a try!

All the best,

  1. Hi Ioana!
I am glad that you tried it πŸ™‚ I think you didn’t had enough patience. I really understand you and the fact that it’s pretty hard at the beginning…
If I were you I would’ve tried it a bit longer. Trust me, when I first tried it, when I touched my hair it felt like a broom, very weird and like it was all clumped together.
If you feel like, try it one more time and try to have more patience…
Anyway I want to congratulate you for trying it! I’m glad that you wanted to see how it actually feels.
    All the best!

  2. Thank you, Bogdan. I did not notice any obviously improvment in time, so I am not thinking to try again for now. I am using anyway, from a few years, the most natural shampoons I have found on the market.

  3. Hi Ioana!
It’s very good that you are not using the regular, full of chemicals, shampoo πŸ™‚
I respect your decision and I am happy that you’ve tried this one too. I imagine that noShampoo is not really for everyone πŸ™‚
    All the best!

  4. Okey thanks :D.
But do you think it’s okay if the first weeks I wash my hair every other day? I just started this so I’m a little bit confuse.

  5. Anna, congratulations for trying this method!
If you feel like washing every day I guess it’s fine. If you use only water is not a problem because the oils will not be washed completely like it would be with shampoo.
My advice will be to try different periods of time. But at first you could feel the need to wash it more often.
If you have more questions don’t hesitate to ask them here or on our Facebook page!
    All the best!

Bogdan thank you for your answers. I think I will definitely stick to this method. It has been 3 days since I’m using noshampoo and my hair already feels great, even if it’s a little bit greasy.
I’m so happy I discovered this, haha. At first I was a bit sceptical, but now I see there was no reason for that.
I hope that in a few months I will get rid of my really greasy greasy hair. When I was using shampoo, I used to wash my hair every day. And now I see that was a HUGE mistake.
I’m going to try baking soda and apple cider vinegar aswell. Just to see the results.

  7. You’re very welcome Anna! πŸ™‚
I used, once, baking soda and lemon juice. I used lemon juice for the smell πŸ™‚ The after-effect is like you’ve washed with a “soft” shampoo. The hair is cleaner but it still has some of it’s natural oils.
I will use this method only in extreme cases, emergency only πŸ™‚
You will see the effects of this method in time. You just have to be patient.
    All the best!
